ALC Siege Machine Competition 2020

Submitted by amy.ewell on
We are battling it out at The ALC!  The 2020 Siege competition is a mixture of Crush the Castle, Angry Birds, Statistics, and Projectile Motion Equations. Bring them all together with a spirit of competition and you get Mr. Adam Barlow's ALC Engineering Principles Annual Siege Machine Competition! Students are challenged to design a siege machine that can launch a tennis ball in a range of 25 to 50 feet inside the ALC East commons area against another team. Their machine design must optimize accuracy, range, as well as reload to launch as quickly as possible.  Once students have built their machine, they record and analyze data with inferential statistics combined with projectile motion equations.

Nebo Credit Union “Warms the Soles” for Nebo Students

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

For twenty-one Christmases, Nebo Credit Union, with the help of local businesses and community members, has organized the “Warm the Soles,” a fundraiser to provide new shoes for students. Beginning in 1999 with only 25 pairs of shoes, the effort has grown to providing over 9,000 pairs of shoes in the last decade for students in 45 Nebo schools.

With planning beginning in January, teachers search for students in need, get their shoe size, and send the information to Nebo Credit Union. Nebo Credit Union employees, in turn, purchase the shoes right before Christmas. After the shoes have been wrapped, they are delivered to the appropriate school.
