"Positive Reflections" Suicide Prevention Project

Submitted by amy.ewell on
Our Nebo CAPS Business & Media Production class is working on creating a positive and healthy mindset for students through their "Positive Reflections" campaign. Mrs. Ewell's students are using vinyl creations to place inspirational and humorous quotes in the ALC's restrooms to remind our students that there can be joy in life, even when they are struggling.

TOWERS, TOWERS EVERY WHERE

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

This week Mrs. Ewell's Entrepreneurship students competed to build the tallest and most beautiful towers using random materials.  Each (uber-competitive) team was given exclusive control over certain materials that the other teams didn't have, like tape, scissors, popsicle sticks, and even rolls of Smarties. The goal was for teams to start sharing their resources and/or work together In building their towers to maximize the height of the towers for the entire community. These ALC students learned about doing business profitably and also doing it “the right way.”

FIBERS MATTER

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Ms. Hartvigsen Medial Forensic classes are at it again. They learned how important fibers can be in solving a crime in their labs last week.

Fiber is one of the most common types of trace evidence that can be found at a crime scene.  Would you know the difference between cotton, silk, angora, cashmere, carpet, rope, and wool fibers?  Fiber analysts look at color, diameter, warp, and weft patterns, as well as length-wise striations, and dyes.  Students found it interesting to look through the microscope and actually see the pattern that is made by the fabric they were studying.  Would you be able to look at a piece of fiber and match it to a suspect?

BUILDING BRIDGES WITH COMMON "CENTS"

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Ronda Hair is over our " ACE" Program here at the ALC. It stands for Architecture, Construction, Engineering.

The students in the program had to apply for this program and many were recommended by their teachers as a great possibility to be in the program.  These students meet twice a week and get instruction, have guest speakers, and also do fun experiments regarding these fields.

One of these fun experiments was our ACE club students worked with cantilevers, center of mass, and pylons today by building with nickels!

Next week they're off on a field trip to the sea container shopping plaza in Springville for a construction tour to gather ideas for their current sea container project.

CHECK OUT THESE RIMS

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Our Collision Repair Classes have some fantastic things going on in their shop. One of these is the painting of rims. Our @alc_collision students got a chance to use the airbrush this week. One of the students, Oiram was able to paint some custom wheels for a scale replica of his daily driver. This thing is going to look awesome.

Keep up the great work. Thank you to the instructor, Mr. Chet Harmer, for the hands-on learning that goes into your teaching.

INTERVIEWS ACCOMPLISHED

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

As part of our professional skills-building boot camp, CAPS students participate in real-world interviews. Interviews help CAPS mentors, select strand ambassadors, to represent Nebo CAPS on tours, industry meetings and as guest speakers during presentations.

A huge thank you to those who facilitate interviews and to our amazing students who continue to

#ExploreDiscoverCreate and allow us to follow where they lead!

These students did a great job with their interviews. It is going to be hard to pick who will be the ambassador because they all did an amazing job.

WAY TO GO STUDENTS!!
