AlC Business Law Students Go to Court

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Some of Mrs. Ewell's Business Law students were recently able to visit the newly opened Provo 4th District Court building.  Students, while sitting in the jury box, were given private instruction by a current District Court judge and were later able to watch several criminal sentencing hearings.  Students were also taken on a tour of the new court facility, including a juvenile courtroom, holding cells, judges chambers and more.  Mrs. Ewell's law students were then given an inside look into a new domestic dispute resolution pilot program offered at the Provo courthouse and learned how jurisdiction applies to the law.  Finally, students were able to speak with a law clerk and an appellate judge about common law, precedent and the responsibilities of the courts.  The event was an insightful look into the Utah court system and the responsibilities of the legal system in our communities.
