FROM EMR, TO ONLINE CLASSES, TO FIREFIGHTER

The ALC has many options offered in the building that many people may not be aware of. Not only do we have regular school classes taught by a face to face teacher, but we also have live interactive classes being streamlined from UVU, we have internship options where the students go to worksites and get hands-on experience in a field they would possibly love to do as a profession.

Another option for students that are housed here in our school, is Utah Students Connect online school. This program for Nebo is run by the Nebo Online Coordinator, Anna Palmer, and her assistant Marcie Ford. They do an amazing job keeping the students registered and do all the tracking needed to make sure the students succeed in the classes they are taking.

The online Program helps free up the student's schedules so that they have more time to explore job opportunities while still getting their school credits fulfilled in order to graduate.

One of these students who has taken advantage of this option is Rainy Call who is a senior this year. Rainy came to the ALC her sophomore year and took the Med term class and added with her EMR class from SHS, her love of helping people was born.

Because Rainy is taking her classes online, Rainy has been able to travel with her parents back and forth from Utah to Pennsylvania where her parents have jobs.

This is a quote from Rainy's Mother.

" We have been commuting back and forth from Utah and Pennsylvania since my husband and I have jobs that send us everywhere. On the PA side of our life, Rainy joined the fire department in McAlevy’s Fort, PA. They were excited to have her because she had earned her EMR and they are scheduling and paying for her to get her EMT. Meanwhile, she has attended fire fighting training and is certified in the first of three modules.  Thursday she is getting certified for water rescue.

She is told that she has the smallest fire suit they have ever bought. Her EMR teacher at SHS taught her well on how to lift so she works as hard as everyone else. She has a pager and responds to 911 calls.  I believe her declared major at UVU is Emergency Services. This has been a great experience and it all started with her EMR and Medical classes. Thank you for helping Rainy. Here are pictures from what she is doing right now!  .. still thanks to the ALC for influencing her in this direction!" The flexibility of her Utah Students Connect classes has made it possible for Rainy to have this experience.

WAY TO GO RAINY!!! HUGE SHOUT OUT TO ANNA PALMER AND MARCIE FORD FOR ALL THE WORK YOU DO FOR UTAH STUDENTS CONNECT AND THE STUDENTS YOU HELP SUCCEED! #alc#nebohero #NeboSchoolDistrict #studentsuccess #empowerstudents #engagestudents #focusonstudents #loveUTpublicschools #utpol #uted #ThankATeacher #LoveTeaching
