Mock Trials

Mrs. Ewell's Business Law classes recently participated in a round of Mock Trials.  Students assumed the roles of attorneys, witnesses, bailiffs, and judges.  Class members were able to fully immerse themselves in all aspects of civil law and issues which arose due to allegations of underage drinking, speeding, and texting while driving.  The Business Law classes simulated lower court litigation processes in determining the strengths and weaknesses of a case of negligence.  Specifically, students determined whether a duty of care existed in protecting all passengers in a vehicle, whether a breach of that duty occurred, and if the injuries which arose from that violation had a definite and determinable cause.  This was a lesson in civil discourse at its finest, allowing students to demonstrate public speaking skills, problem-solving, and procedural law.
