Lessons From The Cockpit - ALC Aviation

Submitted by amy.ewell on

On Friday, March 4th  the Private Pilot class enjoyed a visit from UVU assistant professor of aviation, Fiona Silcox.  She came to explain how the aviation program works at UVU and answer questions the students had about our concurrent enrollment class and the classes at UVU.  It was great to get information from the source for the students who want to continue their aviation careers through UVU.

THE TIME HAS COME AGAIN- SPRING FORWARD

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Reminder- This Sunday is Daylight Savings Time.

It is time to set your clocks forward an hour.

When and why did daylight savings time start?

Daylight saving time began during World War I in Germany when the country was looking for ways to save energy. Germany moved the clock forward to have more daylight while people were at work. Several countries, including the U.S. in 1918, followed suit for the duration of the war.

Why did we start daylight savings time in the United States?

During the 1973 oil embargo, the US Congress ordered a year-round DST period lasting from January 1974 to April 1975. The rationale was to study the effects of seasonal time change on energy consumption.

A MAN FOUND IN MEDICAL FORENSICS

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

A young man was found dead in front of his TV. A variety of white pills surrounded the table next to him.  Did a doctor prescribe these drugs?  Are these over-the-counter drugs?  Did the person use illegal drugs?.  Before performing more complex confirmatory testing to identify the components of any drug forensic toxicologists perform presumptive color spot testing.  Spot tests rapidly show results to indicate the possibility that certain drugs are present.

Students in Medical Forensics were given a variety of drugs.  One of the drugs was unknown.  Students did a color spot test to identify the unknown drug.  Were they successful?  Join Medical Forensics to find out.
