National School Psychology Week 2020

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Nebo celebrates all our school psychologists, and all they do for Nebo students.

During the week of November 9-13, 2020, schools throughout the United States will celebrate National School Psychology Week to highlight the important work school psychologists and other educators do to help all students thrive.

This year’s theme is “The Power of Possibility.” The word “possibility” implies hope, growth, resilience, and renewal. The possibility suggests that even something as small as a seed can grow into something magnificent. The word “power” implies that things can and will happen. When we focus on what is possible, we have hope that students will grow, thrive, and bloom.

Thank you Nebo psychologists for all you do for our students.

ALC STUDENTS BUILD HOUSES

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

I am not sure if very many people know about two of our amazing classes here at the ALC. The Carpentry I Class and the Carpentry II class.

These classes are taught by Mr. Tom Hawks who is such a great teacher to these students.

In this two-course series, students will learn to layout, fabricate, erect, install and repair wooden structures and fixtures using hand and power tools.  Includes instruction in common systems of framing, construction materials, estimating, blueprint reading, concrete placing, siding, and mechanical systems.

STRAWBERRY DNA

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Ms. Hartvigsen's Health Science class got busy extracting DNA from strawberries the other day.

Why would you use strawberries to extract DNA from? The answer is simple. Ripe strawberries are an excellent source for extracting DNA because they are easy to pulverize and contain enzymes called pectinases and cellulases that help to break down cell walls. And most important, strawberries have eight copies of each chromosome (they are octoploid), so there is a lot of DNA to isolate.
