Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Business & Digital Media CAPS (Center for Advanced Professional Studies) students have been involved in a major rebranding effort for Salem City.  Students have been busily creating slogans and new logos for Salem City's fleet vehicles, as well as other Salem City digital and print communications.  A presentation of these designs was delivered by ALC student Sydney Ward, a Business CAPS Project Manager, on Wednesday, October 16th at the Salem City Council Meeting.

HAPPY BOSS DAY

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

On this Boss' Day we are grateful for our principal at the ALC, Ben Ford.

Ben is universally admired by the faculty and staff of the school. He brings with him more than 20 years of educational and administrative experience, which is quite apparent in the daily operation of the school. Ben is each teacher's biggest advocate, allowing them to focus on student success. As the ALC opened its new building, he was instrumental in cultivating the welcoming culture that allows our students to thrive.

We feel so lucky to have Ben Ford at the helm of the ALC and hope he gets to be leading our crew for many more years to come.

"THANK YOU", MR. FORD FOR ALL YOU DO FOR THE ALC FACULTY AND STAFF.

UCAW (UTAH COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK ) WAS A SUCCESS

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

The counselor, Ms.Natalie Grant went to a lot of work to make sure that the students here were well informed about all of the college options that are out there for the students here at the ALC. She had guest speakers, tons of swag and lots of information to give them. She visited the English classes and helped walk them through the process of applying for colleges. All in all, this week was a huge success.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK MS. GRANT!!

UCAW WEEK AT ALC

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

A college education is the KEY to your future, which can be anything from a one-year certificate to a four-year degree and beyond. This week at the ALC, we are hosting our Utah College Application Week (UCAW), which acquaints all our students with the importance of preparing for and attending college.

At the ALC, we are specifically helping our seniors in our ENGL 1010 courses, to complete and submit at least one college application, as well as learn about college admissions, scholarships, and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

If your senior is not in our ALC ENGL 1010 course, they will be participating in Utah College Application week back at their home high school either this week or next week.

ALC ATTENDS SIXTH ANNUAL I-HEART-TECH CONFERENCE

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Ms. Ronda Hair took 3 of our ALC students to the Adobe I-Heart-Tech Conference that Adobe hosted recently.

There were close to 350 students who attended.

The workshops were based on STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education. In a robotics workshop, students faced several programming challenges. The final task was to have their “mBot” robot follow a curving black path. The team with the fastest robot advanced and raced other teams. The coveted prize was Fitbits for the fastest bot.

Medical Forensic Classes Get into Details

People learn in different ways – hearing, seeing or doing.

Visual – You learn by seeing

Auditory – You learn by hearing

Kinesthetic – You learn by doing

If you are a Visual Learner, you will learn best if you can see it. You love images, posters, charts, videos, diagrams, etc., and you like to take notes to help you remember.

If you are an Auditory Learner, you learn best by listening. You love a good discussion and listening to interesting stories to help you remember.

If you are a Kinesthetic Learner you need to use all of your senses. You prefer a hands-on approach to help you remember.
