TEAM WORK JUMPROPING

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

You can accomplish ANYTHING if you work as a team.  Mr. Albright's class has been doing team building activities for the past two weeks. Today they finished some of them off by jump roping.

It takes teamwork in order to make jump roping work. You need one person on each end to turn the rope or else nothing happens for the person in the middle to be able to jump the rope. He talked to them about how each person is important in order to accomplish a goal. If even one person is missing, things aren't accomplished the way they would have been without everyone.

It was a fun activity.

Thank you, Mr. Albright, for always enlightening your students through your activities.

No Two Hands Alike

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Ms. Beyal is one of the favorite guest speakers that the Elementary Education Block has come every year.  She has all the students line up and put their hands out. Then she has them compare the color of their own hands with everyone else around them.  The interesting thing about this experiment is that there is NO TWO HAND COLORS ALIKE!  She then talks to them about differences and about not judging people according to their race or color.  It is a very eye-opening exercise for the students.

Thank you Ms. Beyal for impacting these students with your hands-on activities and with your knowledge.

Mr. Jamsa Visits the Education Block for Team Building Activities

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

It is always fun to have guest speakers come into the classroom. But the Education Block loves when Mr. Ralph Jamsa comes to visit and teach them team building activities.  Mr. Jamsa came and taught the students a rope team building activity that had them concentrating and using their thinking and teamwork skills.

Thank you Mr. Jamsa for taking time out to benefit the students here at the ALC with your knowledge and expertise.

Elementary Education Block Tackles the Acid River

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Mr. Albright is constantly giving his elementary education classes some fun hands-on activities. This past week they were able to do one, in particular, is entitled, The Acid River.

"Acid River" as an outdoor opening activity to warm up the group. It also requires people to get into each other's personal space which helps open them up and begin to connect with each other more quickly.

This activity can be used to stimulate insights into problem-solving, strategy, challenging, collaboration, teamwork, communication, mutual support, encouragement, and celebration.

The game goes as follows:

UCAW INFORMATION HAPPENING THIS WEEK

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

A college education is the KEY to your future, which can be anything from a one-year certificate to a four-year degree and beyond. This week at the ALC, we are hosting our Utah College Application Week (UCAW), which acquaints all our students with the importance of preparing for and attending college.

At the ALC, yesterday and this Friday (Nov. 9th), we are specifically helping our seniors in our ENGL 1010 courses, to complete and submit at least one college application, as well as learn about college admissions, scholarships, and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

If your senior is not in our ALC ENGL 1010 course, they will be participating in Utah College Application week back at their home high school either this week or next week.

COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK AT ALC

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

This week is College Application week at the ALC. Our counselor, Annette Pukahi, has worked very hard to get a week of information and material out to all the students here at the ALC. She has swag, videos on the importance of college, and college bingo games for the students to do throughout the week.  She is also helping the Seniors fill out College applications.

This week will be used in helping the students get the resources and knowledge of how to apply for colleges, and the importance of stepping up to their own education and plan to go to college.

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

We are so excited to have a few new teachers here this year at the ALC.  One of those new teachers is Amy Ewell.

Amy Ewell grew up in Orem, Utah where she and her identical twin loved tricking their teachers and friends on a regular basis.  Amy met her husband Tim while attending BYU. After graduating they moved to the Los Angeles area, where Amy worked in marketing and her husband worked in the movie industry as a prop maker. They have been married for over 25 years and have 3 children.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM THE ALOHA LUAU CENTER (ALC)

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

The Aloha Luau Center would like to wish you all a Happy Halloween from the sunny hallways of our school.

As you enter our fine establishment, you are sure to find relaxing ukelele music, and sounds of the Ocean and beautiful scenery, the minute you step through the doors of our establishment.  The smells of good Hawaiin food would reach your nostrils, along with seeing occasional sunburned faces, and non-sunburned faces and patrons lounging in the hammocks positioned in convenient places for that nap on the beach.

If you are looking for rest and relaxation, good food, and stress-free days, make sure you visit the ALC any time.

Happy Halloween from Our house to yours

ALC GOES ALL OUT FOR HALLOWEEN

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Halloween was in full Swing the whole Month of October at the ALC.  From Witches, To HOGWARTS, to Hawaii... There is ALWAYS something going on here.  We have had so much fun watching the students walk in the front doors and looking to see what was new that day!!  The changes took place either in the office, in the front display case, or in the front entryway......  WAS SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH THEIR FACES AND HEAR THEIR COMMENTS.

One more way of proof that shows, the ALC is ALL ABOUT THE STUDENTS HERE!!
