Great Things Happening in March for Women and Leadership Opportunitues

Welcome to March! Here are five women and leadership announcements:

 

First, Tuesday is the next Utah Women’s Leadership Speaker & Dialogue Series event is titled “Strengthening the Impact of Women: Body Image, Crucial Conversations, and Perfectionism” (March 7, 2017, 6:30-8:30pm, UVU). Three of the four sessions will live stream during the event for those in various parts of the state (check www.uvu.edu/uwlp for links to stream). RSVP here if you are joining us in person. President Matthew & Paige Holland of UVU will give a brief keynote and then we will have three breakout sessions (see flyer for full descriptions):

  • Beauty Redefined: The Impact of Body Image on Girls and Women (Drs. Lexie and Lindsay Kite, co-directors of the Beauty Redefined Foundation) [EXCELLENT for young women 12-18 or older]
  • Crucial Conversations: Strengthening the Impact of Women (Dr. Emily Hoffman, Vice President at VitalSmarts, also an MD)
  • The Impact of Perfectionism on the Wellbeing of Women (Dr. Kris Doty-Yells, professor of behavioral science and therapist) 

 

Second, we are releasing our 7th Utah Women Stats research snapshot today; it is titled “Mammography Among Utah Women.” Co-authors include Elyse Barnes (MPA Candidate, Brigham Young University) and Robbyn T. Third, the Utah Women and Leadership Blog is packed full of wonderful posts on women, leadership, and education in Utah:c. You can sign up directly for the blog on that website. Bonnie Mortenson (BMortensen [at] uvu.edu (BMortensen[at]uvu[dot]edu)) and Holly Richardson (Holly.Richardson [at] uvu.edu (Holly[dot]Richardson[at]uvu[dot]edu))are running the blog—contact them if you would like to contribute.

 

Fourth, for women who work in higher education settings, there is a statewide leadership conference hosted by the Utah Women in Higher Education Network (UWHEN) on April 7, 2017 at Utah State University-Eastern (Price). The conference program details are here. There is a fee (March 3 is end of early bird fee), and you can register online

 

Fifth, we are partners for three upcoming events in Utah for girls and young women. First, a Provo Girls Summit is taking place at the Provo Library on March 8th. This is Provo’s first-ever professional summit for girls, ages 8-12. Girls can register to attend hereSecond, Utah CollegeCon is having their second annual event on March 18th at Davis  High School in Kaysville. Utah CollegeCon is a wonderful event for parents to learn more about the higher education system, for students to learn how to become scholarship smart, and for businesses to improve their visibility with tomorrow’s workforce. There is also a SheTech conference at Weber State University on March 31, 2017 and an Explorer Day at Dixie State University on April 21, 2017.
