NEW TEACHER FEATURE: SUZETTE HARTVIGSEN

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Another one of our new teachers to the ALC this 2019-2020 school year is Suzette Hartvigsen.

Suzette is no rookie to teaching though. She has taught for 33 years. We feel so blessed to have Suzette joining our ALC team.

Suzette graduated from Weber State University in 1986 with a major in Physical Education and a minor in English.  During her time in Ogden, she became an assistant coach in both volleyball and basketball at Ogden High School, where she coached for two years.  Suzette earned the Student Teacher of The Year Award from Weber State.

Suzette Hartvigsen was inducted into Nebo Hall of Fame February 2015.

Suzette loved watching her students improve their athletic talents and abilities.  She has always promoted teamwork, dedication, sportsmanship, and hard work.  Her students are encouraged to show respect to all on and off the playing field. She has always been dedicated to her students and to the community.

Quoting Ms. Hartvigsen, "I am in my thirty third yr. of teaching.  I spent my first 26 years of teaching at Springville High School where I taught Physical Education, Health, and Intro to Health Sciences.  I coached volleyball and basketball my first five years at Springville, we were fortunate enough to win two state championships in volleyball and one in basketball.  After that first five years, I coached softball and volleyball.  I spent 23 years coaching these two sports.  In softball, we took three 2nd place finishes at the state tournament.

In 2000 I married Monelynnn Hartvigsen and quickly had two children, our third child came when we took a trip to China and adopted her.  They are currently a Senior and Junior at Salem Hills High School and the youngest is in 8th grade at Salem Jr. High School.  In 2012 I switched from teaching at Springville High School to Salem Jr. High.  I taught Physical Education and Health at the Jr. High, and was the Athletic Director.  In June of 2018 I retired from teaching, but quickly became bored and decided to come back to teaching.  It was just my luck that the ALC had a job opening in the Health Sciences.  I applied for the job and here I am beginning my 33rd year of teaching at the ALC, and I am loving it.  What a fabulous place, and I get to teach the subjects I love.  Students want to be here and are a joy to work with.  The faculty and staff have bent over backward to make me feel welcome.  I look forward to many more years here at the ALC."

WE LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU SUZETTE!
