Grip Tape Challenge Winners Each Receive $500

Submitted by amy.ewell on

10 ALC CAPS students were recently selected to participate in the GripTape Learning Challenge in Mrs. Ewell's Business & Media Production Capstone class.  Students were awarded $500 each to pursue something they're passionate about learning.  Students will also be mentored by Griptape for a 10-week period to support them in seizing control of their own learning.

Several students previously earned this grant including McKay Ewell (4k drone) and Akaysha Murphy (cosmetology supplies).  In total our Business CAPS students have received $6,000 to pursue their learning!

ALC students are using their funds to pursue a variety of learning opportunities:

SNEAK PEEK! Our Nebo Bottle CAPS bus is nearing completion and we just hit a major milestone... WE PASSED OUR FINAL INSPECTION! We are so grateful to the Utah County Health Dept for working with our students on this bus conversion. Jay Schvaneveldt, an Environmental Health Scientist came out and spoke with our students about the importance of food safety.  He spoke to students about food safety rules and the various ways we can protect others from foodborne illnesses.  He even let one of our students test the temperature of our newly purchased sandwich top fridge!

Our NeboCAPS Business & Media Production Class is thrilled to be working with several community clients this semester.  One current client is Gluten Free Heaven, a local baking mix and gluten-free supply company.  Students are working to improve the company's social media presence, redesign the product packaging under the mentorship of Temkin and rebrand the company with an emphasis on delicious, enticing, and affordable everyday baking mixes.
