GUEST SPEAKER VICTIM'S ADVOCATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

The criminal justice classes were honored to have a guest speaker come to their classes. The guest speaker was Makale Fitzgerald, a Victim Assistance Program Coordinator at Utah County Sheriff's Office.

Makale spoke to the students about the services the Utah County Victim Assistance Program provides families, in breaking the cycle of violence and becoming independent and abuse-free. Victim Advocates help families access community resources, develop safety plans, and receive education and encouragement to make changes and move forward in their lives.

Thank You Makale, for taking the time to share your knowledge and information with our students.

Patrice Bole Visits Criminal Justice Classes

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Every year the Criminal Justice classes get the privilege of having Patrice Bolen, from the UVU Police Academy, come and talk to the students about programs and opportunities that are available.

She brings a little friend with her, a mannequin called Collin D. Cops.

It is always fun to see her wheeling Collin through the doors in his stroller.

Thank You to Patrice for taking time out of her schedule to help educate our students.

Fingerprinting

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

When Police take a suspect into custody, the suspect's name," mug" shot, and fingerprints are taken.

This is known as the booking process. Criminal Justice students practiced taking fingerprints of a " suspect".   Students took turns fingerprinting and being fingerprinted using a 10- part fingerprint card; the same used by law enforcement.

Also, students practiced developing and lifting fingerprints from various objects using black fingerprint powder.

What a fun, informative activity the students were able to take part in.
