ALC First Robotics Competition KickOff

We had 24 students and 2 FIRST alumni show up for the FIRST Robotics RAPID REACT kickoff at ALC Saturday morning!  Waffles, fruit, drinks, and syrup got everyone in the mood (sugared up) for the 2022 Kickoff!  Several other students were not able to attend but watched the game reveal at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgniEjI9cCM

The team spent three hours reading the game manual, discussing play strategies, and shooting the Cargo balls at a makeshift upper goal.

The team will be meeting again this weekend (times to be released early this week).

We need students (and mentors) that are interested in:

  • T-shirt and graphic design
  • Marketing and Fund-raising
  • CAD design and Engineering
  • Welding, Machining, Fabrication, Construction
  • Research and Development
  • Sensors and Electronics
  • Programming and AI
  • Safety

We will compete at the Utah Regional April 7-9th. ( I know that this is right during Spring Break...Sorry) which is being held at the Maverick Center in Salt Lake City!  There will be over 40 teams competing from the intermountain west and teams from other states including California, Hawaii, and Florida.  This year there will also be two teams from Taipei, Taiwan!

This year we have the opportunity to be a top qualifier due to the combination of our talented students, relevant curriculum, and CTE equipment resources make this the year to be involved!

We really need mentors that are willing to spend some of their time helping these team members succeed in a multi-faceted competition.

This opportunity is available to any student in grades 9-12, 14 years or older.  Please reach out to Rob Eastmond at robert.eastmond [at] nebo.edu (robert[dot]eastmond[at]nebo[dot]edu) if you or your student is interested.

But wait....That is not all we have to offer!  You can download a free video game of this year's competition where you can interact with other robots, collect and score cargo, and climb for the win!  Go to https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/frc/playing-field and click on Simulation or scroll to the bottom of the page for xRC's game download! E-Sports for the mind! (Special feature: You can also play previous years' games)

And just for reading this far, we have another bonus for you!  Automation Direct has created a virtual field that you can interact with using VR headsets!  Go to https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/frc/playing-field and click on Augmented & Virtual Reality (AR & VR)!
