Halloween Roams The Halls

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

There were many spooks and some really creative costumes roaming the halls of the ALC today.

Many students were sporting some kind of Halloween attire, whether it be a fun Halloween t-shirt or a full-on decked-out costume.

It's always so fun to see what the students come up with. Here are just a few of the students and teachers with their cotumes.

Thanks for the great fun day.

Becoming A Network Pro At The ALC

Submitted by amy.ewell on

Our Network Pro and RepairWare business students are working hard to improve their IT skills this semester.  Mr. Talbot's Network Pro class has been working on building different network media types.  They built ethernet cables, coax cables, and fused fiber optics.   Network Pro helps students gain the knowledge and skills they need to install, configure, and maintain a network for a small business.

UCAW, Utah College Application Week, was a huge hit at the Advanced Learning Center.  From the door decorations, the amazing competitions between faculty and staff, to the many students that applied to colleges, it was a fun week to be had by all.

Huge "Thank You" to Ms. Grant for the effort she put into this week.

Congratulations to the Seniors that have applied and are taking steps to succeed in their futures.

Patrice Bole Visits Criminal Justice Classes

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Every year the Criminal Justice classes get the privilege of having Patrice Bolen, from the UVU Police Academy, come and talk to the students about programs and opportunities that are available.

She brings a little friend with her, a mannequin called Collin D. Cops.

It is always fun to see her wheeling Collin through the doors in his stroller.

Thank You to Patrice for taking time out of her schedule to help educate our students.

Fingerprinting

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

When Police take a suspect into custody, the suspect's name," mug" shot, and fingerprints are taken.

This is known as the booking process. Criminal Justice students practiced taking fingerprints of a " suspect".   Students took turns fingerprinting and being fingerprinted using a 10- part fingerprint card; the same used by law enforcement.

Also, students practiced developing and lifting fingerprints from various objects using black fingerprint powder.

What a fun, informative activity the students were able to take part in.

Forensic Lab Fun

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Edmond Locard said that there is always something left at a crime scene and something is taken away.  This is called trace evidence.  Medical Forensic students looked at a small portion of trace evidence in today's class.  Students did a packing tab lab.  Students put tape on the bottom of their shoes and looked at the tape under a microscope.  What did they pick up?  Something from everywhere they have been this morning.

Next students looked at lip prints, and tire tracks, could students match the tread with the tire, could they match the lip prints with the correct lip prints?  Other students looked at bullet casings, and others compared them to glass and plastic.
