Food Trucks, Fun and Experiential Learning At The ALC

Submitted by amy.ewell on

And so the food truck adventure begins...

Don't call us crazy, call us entrepreneurs! Our ALC Business and Media Production CAPS, NeboCAPS and ALC students are excited to announce that we will be converting a school bus into a working mobile food truck this year. The bus was delivered on Friday and we are BEYOND excited!  The bus was purchased at auction for our NeboCAPS students through the Nebo School District CTE department.  Our ever fearless CTE Coordinator, Alan Ashton, drove to Arizona to hand-deliver the bus to us.

Service With A Smile

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

We are always so grateful for the many people who help us look good at our school and help us have treasured memories of what we look like from year to year.

Bell Photography has been so good to work with, and the faculty and staff look forward to getting our ALC faculty and staff board to hang in our entry.

Talk about service, they even personally delivered it to us.

Thank you Bell Photography for all you do for the faculty and the students. Enjoy your ALC shirts.

Educational Support Professionals Day

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

When you think of Education Support Professionals, most people will think of teachers. However, the truth is that they make up the people who drive the buses, clean the buildings, prepare the meals, and bandage scraped knees in public and private schools all over the country.

Since they make up over 40 percent of the school’s staff, most of the time their professions get overlooked. Because of the long work hours and main activity they have with student safety, Education Support Professionals Day is made to give thanks to them for their hard work and services to their schools and students.

We want to take a moment to thank all of those behind the scenes people that help make our school here at the ACL run smoothly.  You are amazing and appreciated.

Food Photography, Fun, and Gluten Free Heaven

Submitted by amy.ewell on

Our NeboCAPS Business & Media Production Class is thrilled to be working with several community clients this semester.  One current client is Gluten Free Heaven, a local baking mix and gluten-free supply company.  Students are working to improve the company's social media presence, redesign the product packaging under the mentorship of Temkin and rebrand the company with an emphasis on delicious, enticing, and affordable everyday baking mixes.

Mock Crime Scene In Medical Forensics

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

What do you do when you learn how to collect evidence?  Have a mock crime scene of course.  Students at the ALC had the opportunity to look for evidence at four different crime scenes.   Students have divided into teams each team member had a specific job to accomplish such as the first responder, evidence collector, photographer, and recorder.

Students collected evidence, bagged the evidence, and photographed evidence.  Each group then reconstructed the crime scene from the evidence.

Evidence tells the story and these students figured out what the story was.

Students loved that this activity was hands-on and gave them the opportunity to practice what they had learned in class.

GUEST SPEAKER VICTIM'S ADVOCATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

The criminal justice classes were honored to have a guest speaker come to their classes. The guest speaker was Makale Fitzgerald, a Victim Assistance Program Coordinator at Utah County Sheriff's Office.

Makale spoke to the students about the services the Utah County Victim Assistance Program provides families, in breaking the cycle of violence and becoming independent and abuse-free. Victim Advocates help families access community resources, develop safety plans, and receive education and encouragement to make changes and move forward in their lives.

Thank You Makale, for taking the time to share your knowledge and information with our students.
