All I Want For Christmas... Waffles?!

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

On Wednesday and Thursday, we decided to Deck the Hall" with the smells of...... WAFFLES.

The front office wanted to let the students and faculty know how much we appreciate them here at the ALC, so twice each day, we made waffles with all the fixins' for them to enjoy.

The laughter and dancing, and singing, (done mostly by the office staff) was a memory we hope to continue.

The students were so grateful for the gift of food and left feeling full and happy.

What a fun time to be had by all.

We hope to start an ALC Christmas Tradition for years to come.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Pearl Harbor Remembered 80 years later

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

When hundreds of Japanese planes bombed American service members and civilians on U.S. soil on Dec. 7, 1941 – killing more than 2,400 – America was an “isolated, quiet, withdrawn” nation said Craig Nelson, author of the 2016 book “Pearl Harbor: From Infamy to Greatness.”

The events of that day, dubbed “a date which will live in infamy” by then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt, launched America’s involvement in World War II, beginning decades of growing global U.S. influence.

The Japanese attack killed 2,403 Americans, including 58 sailors on the USS Utah, the majority of whom remain entombed in the sunken ship.

Today we honor and remember those who were impacted by this tragic event in history.

FUN WITH BONES

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Anatomy and Physiology students had the opportunity this week to dissect bones. Who knew you could dissect a bone, isn't it just bone? As these students found out there is more to the bone than just bone.

Did you know that joints, such as the ball that fits into the hip joint are smooth and look like marble?

Did you know that the knee cap slides along something that looks like a track?

Students were able to see these characteristics of bone as well as the meniscus, the ACL, muscle, and fat. Students also sawed the bone in half to see bone marrow.
