Happy ALC Administrative Assistant Week!

Submitted by amy.ewell on Wed, 04/27/2022 - 15:39

We are so thankful for our amazing secretaries and administrative assistants at The Advanced Learning Center/Peaks Center.  Without them, we would quite literally be lost on a day-to-day basis!  From helping students with registration, attendance, the occasional bandaid, or fielding endless questions (from teachers, parents, and students), our administrative assistants keep smiling and working to make the ALC and NOLS an amazing place to be.  We are thankful every day for all they do for us, our students, and Nebo School District.

Our Administrative Assistants work with students from:

  • The Advanced Learning Center

  • Nebo Online Learning Summit

  • My Tech High

  • SOEP

Flowers For the Fun of It

Submitted by shelley.heaton on Thu, 04/21/2022 - 14:26

What girl doesn't love to get flowers?

Well, yesterday and today was the perfect day for a lot of our students, because our Principal Bart Peery was handing out flowers to each girl as they left the school. (Some gf the boys even took one to take home to their mom.)

A lot of them asked, " What is the Special Occasion?"   Well, the occasion was that Mr. Peery thought it would be nice to give flowers out for no other reason, than just for the fun of it.

The smiles that came as a result of this was totally worth it!!

Way to Go, Mr. Peery

Lung Dissection's At the ALC

Submitted by shelley.heaton on Thu, 04/21/2022 - 11:02

Students in Anatomy and Physiology were able to dissect lungs.

The lungs don't look like much just laying on the table, but when inflated they become pink and spongy.

Students had a great time exploring the lungs, especially blowing the lungs up!   Students also got to see the heart, diaphragm and liver.  This is called a lung pluck.

Thanks to Brian Blake for bringing in these organs. The students had a great time exploring.

Thank you to Ms. Hartvigsen for arranging such an intriguing hands- on learning activity for our students.

Our Aviation and Collision Repair classes toured the Duncan Aviation Corporate Aircraft Maintenance Faculty today. It is a family owned and operated business since 1950. It is a beautiful brand new facility.  They showed the students the many things they offer corporate businesses that have planes. They can fuel, paint, build cabinets, any form of complete airplane retrofits that someone may want, they also service and bring any inspection items up to date.

Congratulations to Ally Young and Emily Morril for taking 1st place in Forensic Science at the Science Olympiad in Cedar City this past Saturday, April 9, 2022.

Ally compared this event to a track meet.  She said that students choose three areas to compete in, and students then answer questions related to that area.

In Forensic Science students were asked to analyze a crime scene, students were given a list of suspects that went with the crime scene and they had to determine who the criminal was.

Heart to Heart

Submitted by shelley.heaton on Fri, 04/01/2022 - 08:05

Have you ever wondered what your heart looks like?

Today in Anatomy and Physiology students had the opportunity to dissect pig hearts.  Pig hearts are the closest to human hearts allowing students to take a look at what their own hearts may look like.  Brian Blake had students look at the outside of the heart, and the inside of the heart.

Students found valves, arteries, and veins of the heart.  Students had a lot of fun discovering what a real heart looks like.

Thank to Ms. Hartvigsen for always having such amazing hands-on experiences for these students. And Thank you to Mr. Brian Blake for coming to help with this module of learning.
