Toxicology Lab in Med. Forensics

What does Toxicology have to do with Forensics?

Well picture this,

You are a CSI, and at a crime scene, you find a bag of pills.  You don't know what they are but they could be evidence in a crime.

How do toxicologists find out what the white pills are?  They do presumptive testing, spot testing in this case.

Students in Medical Forensics at the ALC are doing just that, spot testing to see what drugs are in the bag.

Each chemical is tested with liquid chemicals such as Marquis, if the powder turns a certain color it is a drug and further testing will be done to determine the type of drug.

These students compared an unknown drug to 4 other drugs, did they find out what the unknown drug was.  Absolutely!

Once again, Ms. Hartvigsen, Thank you for always giving students such hands-on experiences.
