Courses in the Computer Technology strand will prepare students for entry-level work as a Computer Technician, Technical Support Specialist, or Systems Administrator. Students will understand how to build, service, and maintain a computer, including the installing and formatting of software and hardware. Students will build and maintain a computer lab, learning how to troubleshoot and administer a network. Each course will prepare students to take national certification tests. Certification tests are the responsibility of the student to pay for and find transportation to the test facility. Once a test has been successfully passed and certification granted, the Career & Technical Education Department will reimburse up to 50% of the cost for the test upon request from student.
It is preferred that students have taken Computer Tech I and Computer Programming I, as well as being comfortable navigating in a windows-like environment. All courses listed may not be offered if student enrollment is low. Credit designates high school credit and whether the class is year-long (1) or semester (.5). Your high school counselor can give you more information about the options available for Computer Technology classes.
