Congratulations to Rylee Jackson at the Advanced Learning Center for his AMAZING red paperclip trade with Donny Osmond! Rylee's successful trading resulted in a featured news segment on ABC4 Utah this week.
Through this activity, Mrs. Ewell's Entrepreneurship students learned the story of Kyle MacDonald a man, who through a series of 14 trades, went from a red paperclip to a house in just one year. Kyle’s story demonstrates how pivoting, an entrepreneurial mindset, and market behaviors are played out through a traditional barter-trade economic system. Entrepreneurship students also started their series of trades with a single red paperclip and the goal of trading for the biggest and best item possible. Items gained included pink flamingo lawn ornaments, candy, toys and even a commercial toaster oven
Rylee ultimately traded with Donny for an autographed CD and 2 VIP tickets to Donny's show at Harrah's, Las Vegas. The CD, autographed to Mrs. Ewell read: "To Amy, Rylee deserves an A - Donny". Rylee was definitely the class winner for getting the biggest and best item! We love initiative, drive and an entrepreneurial spirit at the ALC. A huge thank you to Donny Osmond for his kindness and generosity, Youth Entrepreneurs and Empowered for their amazing student-centered curriculum and Nebo School District for their continuous support of CTE education in our community!
