ALC's Version of Shark Tank

Last week was an exhilarating time for our product design students who participated in the Advanced Learning Center's own version of Shark Tank! This engaging project was organized by Ms. Park for her students and showcased a culmination of their hard work in mastering the design thinking process. This critical skill involves empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping, and testing.

Our students were challenged to identify everyday problems and develop innovative solutions. Here's a glimpse of their creative process and projects:

  • Class 1: Tackled the issue of doors hitting holes into walls. Students brainstormed and prototyped effective solutions to prevent this common household problem.
  • Class 2: Focused on the challenge of misplacing water bottles and the annoyance of them tipping over. They devised practical solutions to keep bottles safe and upright.
  • Class 3: Addressed the problem of soda cans going flat when left open. Teams developed inventive methods to maintain the fizz in your favorite drinks.

Each student participated in a group, where they were tasked to create prototypes using either everyday materials or 3D printing filament, primarily utilizing 3D pens. The most thrilling part was pitching their innovative products to our esteemed panel of "sharks."

Meet Our Sharks

The panel of sharks was composed of a diverse group of school leaders and business experts, including:

  • Kali Brown - Assistant Principal
  • Jo Lynn Ford - Principal
  • BJ Ford - Business Teacher
  • Shelley Heaton - Attendance Secretary
  • Ronda Hair - Nebo Career Center Coordinator
  • Courtney Packard- Online Options Counselor
  • CAPSTONE Students

These experts provided invaluable feedback and encouragement to our budding entrepreneurs.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their creativity, teamwork, and dedication to solving real-world problems. Their journey through the design thinking process has not only enhanced their problem-solving skills but also prepared them for future challenges in the world of innovation and design.

Thank you, Ms. Park for your support in nurturing the talents of our young innovators and giving them learning opportunities like these.
