This introductory course presents the processes, institution, and administration of criminal justice in the United States. Students will examine and discuss the following:

  • Crime

  • Criminal law

  • Law enforcement

  • Criminal prosecution

  • Criminal defense

  • Bail

  • The jury system

  • Sentencing

  • The correctional system;

    • Probation

    • Prisons

    • Inmates' rights

    • Parole

This course prepares individuals to perform the duties of correction officers on a local, state or federal level.  Including the history basic functions, and administration of corrections in our criminal justice system.  Students will be introduced to the following:

  • Basics of rehabilitation

  • Methodology

  • Prison/jail system

  • Probation/parole systems

  • Sentencing

  • Appeals

  • Basic crime prevention methods

  • Equipment operation

  • Equipment maintenance

  • Routine correction enforcement responsibilities
