Flying High

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

On Wednesday, 7 September, the UAS flew their first paper airplane drones in class.

After watching a PowerUp drone video, they built their own paper airplanes and as crews of 3 fitted, flew, and observed the drones.

Their inaugural test flights were successful.

The student's had fun using trial and error to figure out the best way to build their airplanes, so that they could have the best flight time in the air.

It was fun seeing them learn and seeing them try to beat the other teams.

It was a great hands' on activity. Thank you Ms. Olsen for always engaging your student's in learning.

Question of the Day... Do Teacher's Eat Lunch?

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

In answer to a student's question, " Do teacher's ever eat lunch?"... The answer is , " YES!"

The faculty and staff had their first potluck luncheon last week and it turned out great.

There is always lots of laughter and great conversations that take place during these scheduled lunch times.

We are so grateful for the faculty and staff we have here at the ALC, and for all that they do to help the students here be the best that they can possibly be.

Guest Speaker Visits Aviation

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

On Friday, Mr. David Newell came to speak to the ALC's Unmanned Aerial Systems class.

Mr. Newell works for Verizon and started Verizon's UAS division several years ago.

He talked to the students about current and future UAS technology and the opportunities the students will have in the future.

He had many exciting stories to tell and was a great resource of knowledge to those students looking for the wide range of options in the Aviation field.

Thank you for taking time to come and speak to our students, Mr. Newell

MEET YOUR FUTURE TEACHERS

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

At the ALC we have some amazing classes and some amazing teachers.

This month's highlight is of the Teaching as a Profession classes. These classes are taught by Ms. Laurie Hansen.

This two course series is for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the field of education.

Students in this class have the opportunity to intern in the classroom of an elementary or secondary teacher in the district, giving them opportunities to teach and interact with students.

In this course these students will explore careers in education, and also learn how to form relationships with students, plan lesson and curriculum planning methods, learn great teaching strategies, and also classroom management skills.

THANKS FOR ALL THE CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT HELP

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Here at the ALC, the Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator, is Ms. Hair.

These past two weeks, Ms. Ronda Hair has been busy trying to make sure that all of the students who would like to take their classes for Concurrent Enrollment, finish all the steps to do that.

Students here at the ALC can take Concurrent Enrollment either through Weber State or UVU, depending where that class is offering CE through them.

She has worked diligently helping our students and parents complete all of the admissions and registration process to get it done.

Thank you for all of your hard work.
