Anatomy and Physiology Cow Eye Dissection Lab

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Today students from Ms. Suzette Hartvigsen’s Advanced Health Science  embarked on a fascinating journey into the world of visual biology. Ever wondered where the retina is located, what vitreous humor is, or where the optic nerve is positioned? Today, our curious young minds found answers to all these questions and many more.

Our innovative Anatomy and Physiology Cow Eye Dissection Lab was a tremendous success. Students had the opportunity to dissect real cow eyeballs, offering them a hands-on, interactive learning experience. This in-depth exploration allowed them to look closely at the components of the eye and understand their functions.

Celebrating Internship Experiences at ALC

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

We would like to shine a spotlight on one of our students, Tristan Ashdown, who has been doing remarkable work in his time at ALC. Tristan has been taking instruction on loading material for a CNC router from Taylor Berg, showcasing his dedication to learning and growth.

Not only has Tristan been working hard on his practical skills, but he is also developing an accurate model of the CNC machine for Symmetry Engineering. This project demonstrates his ability to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios, a skill that is vital in the engineering field.

Engineering Pine Wood Derby Fun

Engineering Pine Wood Derby Fun

Over the past few weeks, our students have been deeply engaged in designing and creating their own 3-D pine wood derby models. This hands-on project was not only a fun and engaging activity for our students, but also an opportunity for them to apply and test their knowledge of engineering principles, particularly aerodynamics.

The variety and creativity of the car designs were a true testament to the ingenuity of our students. Each student had the chance to experiment, through trial and error, to find the perfect combination of elements to create a speedy and efficient derby car. They all showed such resilience and determination in tweaking their designs to get the best performance possible.

Robots Dance At the ALC

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

We're thrilled to share that one of our courses, "Teaching as a Profession," led by the dedicated and dynamic Laurie Hansen, recently treated students to a unique, fun, and hands-on learning experience.

With the help of robots from UVU’s Creative Learning Studio, the future educators in Ms. Hansen's class got a glimpse into the possibilities of technology in education. They had the opportunity to design algorithms and choreograph robot dances, blending creativity with technical skills in an immersive learning environment.

HAPPY SCHOOL COUNSELOR WEEK

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

This month, we are shining the spotlight on a crucial part of our school support team - our school counselors. School counselors play an integral role in ensuring that our students have excellent educational experiences. Their roles go beyond academics, providing essential social-emotional support to our students.

As part of the school support team, our counselors offer critical assistance to students in various areas, assisting in their personal growth and preparing them for future success. Through a comprehensive school counseling program, they promote achievement for all students, helping set them on a path for postsecondary success.

Advanced Architecture: Urban Planning Session

Submitted by shelley.heaton on

Students in the advanced architecture class are currently studying a section on urban planning. Several guest lecturers have been meeting with the students.

Dr. Ralph from Washington State zoomed in to talk to the students about her career in Urban Planning.

Another guest speaker they had come and share her knowledge with the students was Shauna Talbot. Shauna is a city planner for Nephi City. She came with a whole detailed city made with Legos that she had made in advance before coming so the students had an actual visual.

Thank you to both of these ladies for taking time out to help our students learn .

Students will be building a model city to collaborate with the drone class to help them with simulating drone emergency response.
