Choremaster Challenge

Submitted by anna.palmer on

In this activity, engineering student teams thought of a common household chore, then created a gadget--using only the supplied materials--to make that chore easier to perform.  After the allotted time, teams presented a performance of the chosen chore to the rest of the class. Check out the pictures to see what the young engineers came up with.

University of Utah School of Medicine Cadaver Lab

Submitted by anna.palmer on

ALC's Advanced Anatomy and Physiology Class and Medical Forensics Class traveled to SLC to tour the Cadaver Lab at the University of Utah.  Students were able to handle different organs and see how medical students and anatomists work on cadavers.  It was very interesting and a great educational opportunity for the students. Students are told at the beginning that the cadavers they see are people who have donated their bodies to science and they have a huge respect for these people.  They will tell us the person's name, age, how they died, and occupation. This information made it very personal and made the experience even better.

Heart Dissection

Submitted by anna.palmer on

The Advanced Anatomy and Physiology class dissected pig hearts this week. They were able to see all the chambers of the hearts and the different valves, tubes etc. Students distinguished between the 3 layers of heart tissue. They also were able to see the difference in thickness between the right and left ventricles.  Thank you Mr. Blake for coming and doing the dissections with us.
