Our students are transforming into forensic scientists this week. In the Fiber Burn Analysis Lab, they will use fire to unlock the secrets hidden in various types of fibers. This thrilling hands-on experiment takes place in our state-of-the-art lab, where students will burn samples of both natural and synthetic fibers.

What will they do?

  • Observe Flame Color: Different fibers produce distinct flame colors.

  • Analyze Smoke Patterns: Smoke characteristics are key clues.

  • Detect Odors: Determine if the smell resembles burning hair or plastic.

  • Heat Reactions: Does the fiber melt or turn to ash?

These observations equip students with the skills to analyze unknown fiber compositions, similar to how forensic experts work in real crime scenes. This lab not only enhances their observation skills but also introduces them to the captivating world of forensic science and trace evidence analysis.

We are thrilled to provide this enriching experience that bridges classroom learning with real-world applications, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for science.
